I did not know my great-grandfather's name.

Not until recently. I have spent years building companies and advising families on wealth. And yet I did not know the name of the man my father's father came from — where he was born, where he migrated from, which village he settled to build what became our family's home. That changed the day I sat down with my father and asked him to tell me everything.

My father is 94 years old. In his lifetime, he has seen wars, lived through major changes locally and globally, he has built a hospital, a chain of schools from nursery to secondary level, a private university, real estate investments, animal farms, and a medical laboratory. He has given to orphans, funded his church and community for decades, and poured his entire life into building something that matters. He had already typed his life story — page by page — waiting for someone to ask. I almost never asked.

In that one conversation, I learned not only his story — but the story of those who came before him. Where our family originated. How they migrated. Where they settled and built the community that carries our name. For the first time, I understood who I was, where I came from, and what had been silently carried — and silently at risk of being lost — across generations.

Then I thought about the millions of African families in the diaspora whose children were born in London, Paris, Houston, Tokyo — beautiful, capable, successful — but who cannot name their great-grandparents. Who do not know which village their family came from. Who have no story to pass to their own children because no one ever wrote it down.

I thought about what it means to build wealth without identity. To pass money to the next generation without passing the meaning behind it. To leave an inheritance with no story attached to it.

That is why I built the Rooted System!

Not for the wealthy alone. For every family — regardless of income — that understands that the most valuable thing they can leave their children is not money. It is roots. It is a name. It is a story. It is the knowledge of who they are and where they come from — so that everything they build has a foundation beneath it.

The Rooted System is what I wish had existed when I was growing up. It is what I am now using to document my own family's legacy — so that my children will never have to wonder what their great-grandfather's name was. They will know. Because we wrote it down.
